ศีลมีคุณดังนี้
- ผู้มีศีลย่อมมีกาย วาจาปกติ เป็นที่รักของหมู่มนุษย์ผู้มีศีล เป็นที่รักของผีสาง เทวดา
- ผู้มีศีล เมื่อรวมตัวกันอยู่ในสังคมใด สังคมนั้นย่อมสุขสงบเป็นปกติ
- ผู้มีศีล ย่อมไม่รู้สึกเดือดเนื้อ ร้อนใจ ไม่ว่าจะอยู่ในสถานการณ์ใดๆ
- หากอยากเป็นผู้ไม่มีโรค อายุยืน ต้องรักษาศีลข้อที่ ๑ ปาณาฯ
- หากอยากให้ทรัพย์สมบัติของตนปลอดภัยจากภัยทั้งหลาย ต้องรักษาศีลข้อ ๒ อทินนา
- หากต้องการความเคารพ ยอมรับ เชื่อถือ ต้องรักษาศีลข้อ ๓ กาเมสุมิจฉาจาร
- หากอยากให้คำพูดของตนศักดิ์สิทธิ์ สำเร็จประโยชน์ดังที่ตนพูด และคำพูดนั้นเป็นที่น่าเชื่อถือ ต้องรักษาศีลข้อ ๔ มุสาวาทา
- หากต้องการมีสติปัญญาตั้งมั่น เจริญรุ่งเรือง ต้องรักษาศีลข้อที่ ๕ สุราเมระยะ
และเมื่อรักษาศีลทั้ง ๕ ข้อได้อย่างสมบูรณ์จะส่งผลให้ได้รับคือ
- เมื่อถึงคราวตายจักได้ไปเกิดในสุคติภพ
- เมื่อไปเกิดในที่ใดจักได้มีทรัพย์สมบัติมากมาย มหาศาล
- และในที่สุดผู้ปฏิบัติในศีลอย่างเคร่งครัด จักเป็นฐานในการพัฒนาจิต ให้ลุถึงคุณธรรมสูงสุด คือความดับและเย็น ที่เรียกว่า นิพพาน

Advantages of precepts, donation, virtues, and wisdom

Precepts have the following advantages.
- Those adhering to precepts usually have normal actions and speech. They are beloved by virtuous people, as well as spirits and deities.
- Whenever people with precepts gather in any society, such society will be happy and peaceful.
- Those who adhere to precepts will not feel troubled in any situation.
- If you wish to be healthy and have a long life, you must adhere to the first precept by refraining from killing.
- If you wish your assets safe from all kinds of peril, you must adhere to the second precept by refraining from stealing or taking anybody else’s assets.
-If you wish to be respected, accepted, and trusted, you must adhere to the third precept by abstaining from sexual misconduct.
-If you wish your speech is sacred, trustworthy, and becomes true as you have spoken, you must adhere to the fourth precept by abstaining from false and abusive speech.
-If you wish to have an established and prosperous wisdom, you must adhere to the fifth precept by abstaining from alcoholic drinks and narcotic substances.
And when you can completely adhere to all the five precepts, you will obtain the following outcomes.
- After death, you will be born in a blissful state of existence.
- When you are born anywhere, you will inherit huge assets.
- In the end, people strictly adhering to precepts will have a basis for their mental development, till they attain the ultimate virtue called nirvana, which is the
extinguishment of defilement and peace of mind.
