Giving
June 16, 2021
Lord Buddha taught about giving, donation, and sacrifice with the intention that it would relieve sufferings of living creatures that are obsessed with suffering.
When human beings and animals have mercy to help fellow human beings who are similarly destined to the cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, by donation and sacrifice, both directly and indirectly. It is deemed to help relieve suffering of those in difficulty.
It would make the world more peaceful and could reduce jealousy, selfishness, greed, and grudge.
Moreover, giving, donation, sacrifice, and sharing result in good relations in human and animal’s society.
Giving also reduces arrogance, haughtiness, pride, impudence, and all sorts of egoism.
Giving also make givers beloved by receivers and witnessers.
People who continuously give would have bright facial and eyes expression. They will be self-conscious, focused, wise, and charming.
Anyway, giving what, amount of donation, level of sacrifice, all of this must be done with wisdom like the saying “smart giving”.
Giving must be considered what should be given, what should not be given, whom should we give, and whom should not be given.
Lord Buddha classified giving into three types as follows.
1. Giving objects
2. Giving knowledge so that receivers will have wisdom to abandon evil, do good deeds, and have clear mind.
3. Forgiveness to those whom one is angry with and readiness to abandon anger and vengeance
Among three types of mentioned giving, sacrifice, and donation, sharing of the Dhamma is the best of all.
Intentions of giving can be divided into three types as follows.

3. Giving to reciprocate what one has been given
Giving that yields huge beneficial outcome.
1. Given object must be pure. This means giver has righteously obtained that object.
2. Pure intention of giver because of kind heart and good intention, not to show off or buy vote
3. Pure receiver means receiver must uphold precepts
Merits of giving
1. It is the source of all fortune.
2. It is the existence of all fortune.
3. Giver will be happy.
4. Giver is beloved by a lot of people.
5. Giver wins friendship.
6. Giver is charming.
7. Giver is well-liked by good people.
8. Giver is sociable.
9. Giver is brave and courageous in every society.
10. Giver has good reputation.

2. Giving weapons
3. Giving enticement which arouse unwise emotions
4. Giving objects, persons, or animals which are negative for receivers

As such, giving, sharing, and sacrifice must be done with consideration what should be given, what should not be given, and what kind of person should receive it.
This is the most auspicious factor in one’s life.
