Being neutral does not really exist in the hypothetical world.
February 6, 2021
Lord Buddha’s teachings contain a total of 84,000 topics. The teachings are divided into three parts: Buddhist scriptures (called the Tipitaka in Pali). The Tipitaka consists of the Basket of Discipline, the Basket of Discourses, and
the Basket of the Higher Doctrine. Major areas of Buddhist practice are as follows.
Precept (moral conduct)
Concentration of mind (meditation)
Wisdom
Buddhist practice can be divided into two sides: hypothetical truth and ultimate truth.
Hypothetical side or hypothetical world means all beings and people all have their own duties according to their hypothetical roles.
For example,
Kings rule the country with the tenfold virtues of the king.
Ministers govern the country with honesty and transparency.
Military and police protect safety of nation, monarchy, people.
Judges and courts issue their rulings with impartiality and punish wrongdoers.
Doctors and nurses provide treatment and prevention of diseases.
Citizens do their best in performing their own duties and abide by regulations.
Priests and monks are role models for the society. They should practice and teach people moral conduct. When people see their practice, people will follow. Major principle for monks is to do beneficial things both for themselves and other people. At the same time, monks should tell people what is right and what is wrong. Monks should tell people to have consciousness and wisdom to avoid mistakes.
In case that some groups of people do not perform their duties or perform dishonestly, Lord Buddha recommended Buddhist disciples and sages give those people guidelines and teachings so that those misled people will improve and adjust their behaviors.
Lord Buddha’s recommended way of ruling is to reprove or praise people at the right time.
After trying both ways and seeing that they still do not change their behaviors, Lord Buddha taught that.
One should not associate with rascals.
One should associate with sages.
These are duties that one should perform in the hypothetical world. After having completely performed our duties according to the hypothetical world, then, it is time to leave our obligations towards other people and focus on fulfilling the duties for ourselves.
This means to make our body and mind empty.
To extinguish anxiety, distraction, and desires.
Then, cool peace, lightness, and comfort will arise.
This is called a person who has achieved neutralism.
It is not keep claiming to be neutral, even though one has not yet completed his or her duties.
When asked why you are not doing anything, one would give an excuse by claiming to be neutral.
This is called laziness, irresponsibility, fearfulness, selfishness, lack of kindness, and lack of integrity and diligence.
Have you got it?
