ตอนที่แล้วจบลงตรงที่ สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ร.๕ ทรงต้องเสียน้ำพระเนตร ถึงกับทรงมีพระราชนิพนธ์แต่งโคลงสี่สุภาพ และอินทรวิเชียรฉันท์ ด้วยพระหฤทัยที่อัดอั้น ระทมทุกข์คับแค้น ที่ไม่สามารถป้องกันแผ่นดินสยามเอาไว้ได้ทั้งหมด จึงต้องยอมเสียส่วนน้อย เพื่อรักษาส่วนใหญ่
ในพระลิขิตนั้น ทรงทอดอาลัยจนไม่คิดจะมีพระชนม์ชีพอยู่ต่อไป พร้อมทรงส่งพระนิพนธ์นั้น ให้แก่พระประยูรญาติสนิทใกล้ชิด
ในเวลาต่อมา สมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระยาดำรงราชานุภาพ ทรงมีพระนิพนธ์ถวายคำแนะนำให้กำลังใจ ถวายแด่องค์สมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว จนบังเกิดขัตติยมานะ คิดหาทางต่อสู้เพื่อรักษาเอกราชของแผ่นดินสยาม เอาไว้ให้จงได้ จึงทรงมีรับสั่งให้หาตัว พระยาบุรุษรัตนราชพัลลภ มาเข้าเฝ้า
แล้วทรงตรัสปลอบพระทัยพระองค์เอง พร้อมข้าราชบริพารที่เข้าเฝ้าในเวลานั้นว่า
“การที่สยามยอมเสียดินแดนส่วนน้อยตามชายพระราชอาณาจักร ซึ่งพวกเราเองก็ยังทำนุบำรุงรักษาให้เจริญเต็มที่ไม่ได้นั้น ก็เปรียบเสมือนเรายอมเสียปลายนิ้วก้อยของเราไป ยังไกลตัวอยู่ ถ้ายังไงจงช่วยกันรักษาตัวกับหัวใจไว้ให้ดีก็แล้วกัน”
ครั้งเมื่อทรงมีพระหฤทัยตั้งมั่นที่จะต่อสู้ป้องกันสยาม และทรงคิดรับมือกับฝรั่งเศส อย่างสุดกำลังอีกครั้ง โดยการทรงยินยอมจ่ายเงินให้ฝรั่งเศสที่ขู่บังคับเอากับสยาม
สมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวพระพุทธเจ้าหลวง ร.๕ ทรงมีพระดำริกับ พระยาบุรุษรัตนราชพัลลภ ว่าสยามคงจะต้องขวนขวายหาเงินมาจ่ายให้ฝรั่ง แล้วสยามจักหาเงินมาจากไหนกัน มันมากมายขนาดนั้น
พระยาบุรุษรัตนราชพัลลภ จึงทูลว่า สยามยังมีเหรียญเงินถุงแดงเก็บซ่อนไว้ภายใต้พระที่นั่งจักรี สมเด็จพระนั่งเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๓ ทรงทำการค้าขายทางเรือสำเภา แล้วทรงให้เก็บเหรียญนก ของประเทศเม็กซิโกเอาไว้
โดยทรงมีพระราชดำรัสตรัสสั่งเอาไว้ว่า
“เหรียญเงินต่างชาตินี้ จงเก็บเอาไว้ให้ดี จะได้เอาไว้ไถ่บ้านไถ่เมือง ในภายหน้า”

The last chapter ended when King Chulalonkorn (King Rama V) lost his tears and composed a quatrain and a poem out of his depression and grief. The King felt deeply sorrow that he could not save the whole Siam, but had to sacrifice the minority so as to preserve the majority.
In his poem, the King was in despair, did not want to live further, and passed the poems to his close relatives.
Later, Prince Damrong Rajanubhab wrote to give the King a morale support. Then, the King regained his royal pride and fighting spirit in preserving Siamese independence. Consequently, the King asked Phraya Burusrattana Ratchapallop to come and see him.
Then, the King said to console himself and court officials as follows.
“Siam has to sacrifice the minority land along the Kingdom’s borders, the areas in which we also cannot take care of them well. This is like losing a tip of little finger. It is still far from our body. Let us keep our body and heart well.”
When the King was determined to fight for protecting Siam, he thought of how Siam could deal with indemnity payment coerced by France.
King Chulalonkorn (King Rama V) talked to Phraya Burusrattana Ratchapallop that Siam would try to find money for paying to the Westerners, but how Siam could find such a great deal of money.
Therefore, Phraya Burusrattana Ratchapallop informed the King that Siam still had silver coins in red bags hidden at the basement of the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall. The King Jessadabodindra (King Rama III) obtained these coins from junk trading and kept silver Eagle Coins of Mexico.
The King Jessadabodindra (King Rama III) earlier recommended that…
“Keep these foreign coins safely for paying ransom for the country in the future.”
